JACK Joins American Forces Network Programming Lineup
"Playing What We Want" Format One of Four New Armed Services Offerings
U.S. military personnel and their families around the world can now enjoy the popular JACK FM format via American Forces Network, as the branded presentation has been selected as one of four new satellite services being offered to refresh AFN’s current 12-channel radio schedule. JACK’s programming is supplied directly to the AFN Broadcast Center in Riverside, California.
“We were in a position to acquire some new and different programming for the troops and their families, and we jumped on it,” said AFN Director/Radio Jef Reilly. “JACK is aimed at a demographic, which we’ve been looking to attract to AFN Radio.” The format is carried in 177 countries and U.S. territories, as well as aboard U.S. Navy ships at sea.
“At AFN’s request, we are honored to make JACK available to entertain our servicemen and women across the globe with its unique variety of music and personality”, said Garry Wall, Co-president of SparkNet Communications, which programs and furnishes the JACK FM format to AFN in partnership with Dial Global.
The American Forces Network (AFN) is a service of The American Forces Radio and Television Services (AFRTS) and the Defense Media Activity (DMA), whose vision is to provide a “touch of home” to U.S. service members, Department of Defense civilians and their families stationed or deployed overseas through U.S. television and radio news, information and entertainment programs.

JACK is #1 with Adults 25-54 in Los Angeles, Keeps Lead in Seattle
JACK-Branded Stations Continue to Dominate Adult Hits Format
JACK-branded and formatted KCBS-FM is now the No. 1 radio station in Los Angeles among adults 25-54, climbing from 4.9-5.5 between July and August to its best Arbitron PPM monthly ratings ever. As America’s No. 1 Adult Hits station with more than 1.5 million listeners each week, KCBS-FM has seen its ratings grow steadily since February’s 3.2 share, with average-quarter-hour persons 25-54 skyrocketing a whopping 63% over the last six months. In terms of total weekly audience, KCBS-FM is No. 4 in L.A., No. 17 among all music stations in America, and No. 19 among all radio stations.
In Seattle during August, JACK-formatted KJAQ finished No. 1 25-54 for the second straight month and third of the last four. KJAQ earned a 5.6 share and attracted nearly 460,000 consumers, good for No. 3 in weekly reach overall. In another example of JACK’s strength, KZJK/Minneapolis ranked fourth in adults 25-54 for the fourth consecutive month, posting a 6.6 share and nearly 475,000 listeners, also third in the market.
The JACK format is the dominant leader of Adult Hits programming. Although they represent fewer than 25% of all Adult Hits stations, JACK stations are the driving force of the format’s ratings success, delivering nearly 44% of Adult Hits’ 17 million weekly reach and almost 33% of its quarter-hour listeners*. Demonstrating its efficiency at delivering the “money” demos, JACK generates close to 46% of Adult Hits’ total 25-54 cume and more than 35% of the format’s entire 25-54 quarter-hour audience.
